Quick answer

Studying in Europe from Bangladesh typically costs €8,000–35,000 a year in total, and budget routes (Germany, France, Hungary) can stay near €8,000–15,000. German public universities are largely tuition-free but need a €11,904 blocked account, and French public universities charge non-EU students about €2,770 a year for a bachelor’s. Apply 8–10 months ahead and start your visa file as soon as you have your admission letter, because embassy waiting lists can be long.

Why Europe is on every Bangladeshi shortlist

Europe combines centuries-old universities, internationally recognised degrees and some of the lowest tuition fees in the world for non-EU students. This guide puts the key numbers, visa rules and costs for Bangladeshi students in one place.

Check before you rely on any figure. Fees, visa funds and post-study rules were checked against university, embassy and government pages in late October 2026. They change every year, so confirm with the university and the embassy before you pay or apply.

What you gain by studying in Europe

🏛

Centuries of academic history

Bologna (1088), Paris (1150) and Heidelberg (1386) are among the oldest universities in the world.

💰

Lower tuition

Public universities in several countries charge little or nothing, and bachelor’s degrees are often 3 years.

🔄

Bologna Process

Credits transfer and degrees are recognised across participating countries.

✈

Travel freedom

A student residence permit from one Schengen country lets you travel across all 29 Schengen countries for short stays.

🧪

Research strength

Renewable energy, biotechnology, AI and space exploration are strong areas.

💼

Work after graduation

Most countries give 12–18 months to look for a job (details below).

Why: More than 2,000 English-taught programmes, interactive student-focused teaching and a central location for a European business career.

  • Top names: TU Delft (48th in QS 2027), University of Amsterdam (60th), Leiden
  • Post-study: a 1-year orientation year to look for work

Why: Reasonable public fees (about €2,770 a year for a non-EU bachelor’s and €3,770 for a master’s) and strong scholarship options. Université PSL is 34th in the world (QS 2027).

  • Top names: PSL, Sorbonne, HEC Paris, INSEAD
  • Post-study: a 12-month job-search permit, generally not renewable

Why: Famous for engineering and for public universities with little or no tuition. Technical University of Munich is 25th in the world and the EU’s highest-ranked university (QS 2027).

  • Blocked account: €11,904 a year (€992 a month)
  • Visa from Dhaka: join the embassy waiting list early; processing takes about 4 weeks after your appointment, but the wait for an appointment can be long
  • Post-study: 18 months to look for work, with a route to permanent residency

Why: Known for medicine and engineering with affordable tuition and living costs, and a growing list of English-taught programmes.

  • Medical names: University of Debrecen, Semmelweis University

Why: ETH Zurich is one of continental Europe’s highest-ranked universities. Quality of life and research funding are exceptional, but living costs are high.

  • Post-study: 6 months, extendable with a job offer
Heads-up on “free tuition”. Germany’s public universities are largely tuition-free, but some states charge non-EU students and every semester has an admin fee. Finland charges non-EU students (see the explorer below), so never assume a whole country is free.

Scholarships you should know

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (part of Erasmus+) can cover tuition, a monthly living allowance and travel for a full master’s taught across two or more countries. Selection is highly competitive and based on academic excellence.

DAAD (Germany): a monthly stipend of €992 for master’s students (more for doctoral candidates), plus health insurance and a travel allowance.

  • Swedish Institute Scholarships
  • Swiss Excellence Scholarships
  • French Government Scholarships

  • Many universities consider you automatically when you apply
  • Merit awards covering 25–100% of tuition

  • Paid research assistantships for graduate students
Scholarship deadlines often come earlier than admission deadlines. Put them on your calendar first.

Working while you study and after graduation

Most countries let students work around 15–20 hours a week during term and full-time in holidays; Germany allows 20 hours. Rules in the Netherlands depend on your permit, so check the official immigration site.

Frequently asked questions

Can I study in Europe without IELTS?

Most universities want English proof, but some accept a Medium of Instruction certificate or run their own assessment. Malta is often mentioned for flexible requirements.

Which country is most affordable?

Germany is usually the first choice because public universities have little or no tuition. Austria, France and Hungary are also popular. Plan on €8,000–15,000 a year in total for budget routes.

Are European degrees recognised?

Yes. The Bologna Process makes degrees comparable across participating countries and multinational employers value them.

Can I work while studying?

Usually 15–20 hours a week in term and full-time in holidays, depending on the country and permit.

How long does the visa take?

For Germany, processing takes about 4 weeks after your embassy appointment, but you must join the Dhaka waiting list first and the wait can be long. Other Schengen countries usually take several weeks. Start as soon as you have your admission letter.

Do I need to learn the local language?

Not to be admitted to an English programme, but it helps daily life and job hunting after graduation.

How do I choose a university?

Weigh ranking, total cost, language requirements, location and career prospects, and cross-check QS and Times Higher Education tables.
