Quick answer

Most questions from Bangladeshi students are about bank statements, visa refusals, English tests and post-study visas. Fake documents can bring a ban of at least 5 years in Canada and up to 10 years in the UK. The UK Graduate visa becomes 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027, Canada’s living-cost proof is CAD 23,448 from 1 September 2026, and Australia has placed Bangladesh at Evidence Level 3. Below are answers to the most-asked questions.

Two dates to remember

From 30 November 2026 the monthly funds rule for the UK student visa goes up. For applications from 1 January 2027 the Graduate visa shrinks from 2 years to 18 months.

Bank statements and funding

The most searched topic. Rules differ by country, so figures name the destination.

What penalty does an embassy give if a fake bank statement is caught?

The application is refused and a ban often follows. In Canada, false information or documents can bar you from entering or staying for at least 5 years. In the UK, a refusal on grounds of deception can bring a ban of up to 10 years. In Australia, false documents usually mean a 3 year bar, and 10 years where your identity is in doubt. Even if an agent prepared the papers, the responsibility is yours, so never submit a fake document.

How do I show my parents’ legal source of income and tax file?

The papers depend on the type of income. For a job, an appointment letter, a salary certificate and bank statements showing salary credits. For a business, a trade licence, TIN certificate, income tax return and business bank transactions. For rent or land income, the deeds and rental agreements. The key is that the source of the money and the bank transactions match each other.

How many months of transaction history must the bank statement show?

One rule does not fit every country. In the UK the money must sit in the account for at least 28 consecutive days, and those 28 days must end within 31 days of your application date. Canadian guidance usually asks for the last 4 months of statements. Australia has placed Bangladesh at Evidence Level 3, so longer history and income sources may be requested. Check the checklist on the relevant visa page before applying.

Can a sudden large cash deposit lead to visa refusal?

A deposit alone does not cause refusal, but an unexplained source creates suspicion. Keep proof with each deposit, such as a property sale deed, an FDR encashment slip or a gift deed. In the UK the money must stay 28 days, so a last-minute deposit may force you to delay the application date.

Which Bangladeshi banks give education loans for studying abroad?

Many banks do. As examples, Bank Asia lists up to 10 lakh taka for study abroad, while Mercantile Bank and Jamuna Bank list up to 20 lakh taka. Limits and terms change, so check each bank’s current page. Whether a loan counts as visa funds depends on the destination country’s rules. Sending tuition does not need prior Bangladesh Bank permission, but you must open a student file at an authorised dealer bank.

How much funding must I show for a Danish student residence permit?

Denmark issues a residence permit for studies, not a student visa. At the 2026 level you must show DKK 7,426 for each month of study, counted for a maximum of 12 months (DKK 89,112). Proof can be a bank statement in your name, a scholarship or a student loan. The figure changes every year, so check nyidanmark.dk before applying.

Can an uncle or aunt be a financial sponsor instead of my parents?

Not the same everywhere. For the UK, the account used is generally your own or your parents’ or legal guardian’s, so an uncle’s account does not work directly. If another relative wants to help, the money must reach your or your parents’ account with proof. Some other countries allow a relative as sponsor with proof of the relationship and income source, but stricter countries such as Australia raise more questions. Confirm with the university and the visa office first.

What is the difference between a bank solvency certificate and a bank statement?

A statement is the full transaction history over a period. A solvency certificate is the bank’s confirmation of your balance on one specific date. Solvency only shows that money exists, while a statement shows how it arrived. Most visa offices want the statement, so keep both ready.

Australia and Canada: tighter rules

The rules of these two countries have changed the most in two years. For universities, see our guide to top Canadian universities.

What are the rules after Canada closed the SDS?

The Student Direct Stream closed on 8 November 2024 and everyone now applies through the regular process. A GIC is no longer mandatory; it is just one way to show funds. For applications submitted on or after 1 September 2026, a single student (outside Quebec) must show CAD 23,448 a year for living costs, with tuition and travel counted separately. The older CAD 20,635 figure no longer applies.

What is the Australian student visa refusal rate for Bangladesh this year?

We could not find an official, verifiable single figure for Bangladesh. The percentages circulating on consultancy sites are not official. What is certain is that since January 2026 Bangladesh sits in the highest-risk Evidence Level 3, so checks are tough. Look for the published statistics on the Home Affairs website.

What does Evidence Level 3 mean for Bangladesh in Australia?

Under the Simplified Student Visa Framework, countries and providers are grouped by risk level. In January 2026, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan moved from Level 2 to the top Level 3. That means more paperwork, especially full financial and English evidence, more scrutiny and possible delays. It is not an automatic refusal; a genuine student with strong evidence can still get a visa.

What is Canada’s study permit cap, and are master’s students outside it?

For 2026 Canada plans to issue 408,000 study permits in total. From 1 January 2026, master’s and doctoral students at public institutions do not need a PAL/TAL, and a separate target of 49,000 permits exists for them. Private institutions fall outside this exemption, and undergraduate and college programmes still need a PAL.

How do I write the Genuine Student requirement for Australia?

Since 23 March 2024 it has replaced the old GTE. Officers look at your current circumstances, your likely circumstances in Australia, the value the course holds for your future and your immigration history. So write in your own words with specifics: how the course links to your earlier study or work, why this institution, and the real basis of your plan. Do not copy a template.

How do I deal with a Canadian refusal under section 216(1)(b)?

It means the officer was not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay. Officers usually weigh family ties, employment, travel history, purpose of the course and financial position. First request the officer’s notes (GCMS) to learn the real reason. Then fix the gap, for example by clarifying the course logic and showing real reasons to return home, and apply afresh. Reapplying with the same papers brings the same result.

Spouse and dependant visas

Rules for bringing a partner or family have changed the most. A fuller comparison is in our guide to the best 5 countries with a spouse.

Can I take my spouse to the UK on a student visa now?

Not on a taught master’s or bachelor’s course that starts on or after 1 January 2024. Only students on a PhD or research-based higher degree, or government-sponsored students on a course longer than 6 months, can bring a partner and children. Each dependant pays a separate visa fee of £558. Get written confirmation from the university that your course is research-based before you apply.

Which countries allow a spouse to work full time with a student visa?

It depends on the country, the course level and the visa type, and rules change often. The general trend is more room on research courses and government scholarships. Our spouse guide sets out the comparison, and you should confirm the work conditions on the official visa page before applying.

What are the rules for a dependant visa to Australia from Bangladesh?

You can include a partner and children in the main application, with proof of the relationship. Each member needs extra funds and a separate visa fee. Check exact figures on the Home Affairs Student visa page. Because Bangladesh is at Level 3, the family’s financial evidence is also checked closely.

English tests: IELTS and alternatives

The test accepted for admission is often different from the test accepted for the visa. Many people waste money by missing this.

Is PTE accepted for Canada and UK visas instead of IELTS?

For the UK, when a Secure English Language Test (SELT) is needed, PTE Academic UKVI works, not ordinary PTE Academic. For degree-level courses many universities assess English themselves, so a SELT may not be needed. In Canada the university decides the test for the study permit, and for the PGWP afterwards you need PTE Core (or IELTS General Training or CELPIP-General), not PTE Academic.

Can I apply with IELTS 5.5 from Bangladesh?

It is possible, but you usually need a pre-sessional English course, foundation or diploma before the degree. Most degree courses ask for 6.0 or higher. Email the university first to confirm your score fits that course, and remember weak English is also a risk in the visa officer’s eyes.

Which universities accept the Duolingo English Test?

The list changes every year, and one department may accept it while another does not, so check the course page. Many US and UK universities accept it for admission. But Duolingo is not on the UK’s approved SELT list, so it will not help your visa if a SELT is required.

Where can I study without IELTS from Bangladesh?

Several routes exist: proof of English-medium study (MOI), the university’s own English test or interview, alternative tests (TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo) and pre-sessional courses. Many programmes in the US and Europe allow this, and our USA guide has details. The visa office may have its own English rule, so check both the admission rule and the visa rule.

Can I do a master’s in Europe with only an MOI certificate after an English-medium honours?

Some universities accept an MOI, some do not, and others ask for their own form or attestation as well. Email the admissions office of the exact programme before applying. A country-wise comparison is in our Europe guide.

Scholarships and fully funded study

How do I prepare for the Japanese MEXT scholarship?

There are two routes: Embassy Recommendation and University Recommendation. On the first, the application goes to the Ministry of Education in Bangladesh, followed by a written exam (Japanese and English) and an interview. You cannot receive MEXT if you hold or have applied for another Japanese government scholarship. In past years the notice has come around April, so watch the Ministry of Education and Japan Embassy pages and keep your research plan ready.

What are the Stipendium Hungaricum requirements for Hungary?

It is the Hungarian government scholarship open to citizens of almost 80 countries, including Bangladesh, and it exempts you from application and tuition fees. You apply on the online portal and, in parallel, to the Sending Partner in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Education. The portal usually opens around November and closes on 15 January; the deadline for the 2026/27 cycle was 15 January 2026. Universities then usually hold entrance exams or interviews from March to May. Confirm the next cycle’s dates on the official site.

How can I get a fully funded master’s scholarship in the USA or Europe?

Well-known names include Fulbright (USA), Chevening (UK), Erasmus Mundus (Europe), Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary), MEXT (Japan) and Australia Awards. Some need work experience, some do not, and each has its own timeline. Strong academics, proof of research or work, and a clear goal help everywhere. Confirm deadlines on the official sites.

What is the right email format to approach professors for a GRA in the USA?

Keep it short, within 200 words. State your research area in the subject line. In the first paragraph give your identity and CGPA or research, in the second cite one specific paper of the professor and say why that lab, and attach your CV at the end. Do not send one email to everyone. If there is no reply, follow up politely once after a week or two, and submit the formal admission application separately.

Passport, police clearance and local documents

What if my name is spelled differently on my NID, passport and certificates?

Treat the passport spelling as the base and match the other papers to it. Fix certificate errors through the board or university, and NID errors through the Election Commission. An affidavit helps temporarily but does not replace correction. Use the same spelling on the application form and every attachment.

How do I get a Bangladesh police clearance certificate online quickly?

Apply online at the Bangladesh Police portal pcc.police.gov.bd, using your NID and passport details. To move faster, give accurate photos and details, keep the payment receipt and track the status on the portal. The fee and timing are shown on the portal. Not every student visa needs it, so check whether your visa checklist lists it.

What is the process for attesting certificates at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the education board?

The usual order is the issuing board or university, the UGC (for university degrees), the Ministry of Education and finally the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), which issues the e-Apostille. Most steps now run online through MyGov and the MOFA portal. You cannot skip a step. For countries outside the Apostille convention, an extra embassy attestation may be needed, so check the destination rule first.

How do I get a WES or ECA evaluation from Bangladesh for Canada?

A study permit usually does not need an ECA; it is mainly for permanent residence (Express Entry) and some professional registrations. For WES you open an online account and apply, and documents generally must be sent to WES directly by the university or board. See WES’s own page for current Bangladesh requirements, as rules change.

Part-time work and the cost of study

Can I cover my tuition by working part-time in the UK?

No. Degree-level students can generally work up to 20 hours a week in term time (check your visa conditions). At the £12.71 an hour minimum wage, 20 hours earns £254.20 a week before tax. That can cover some living costs but not tuition running into thousands of pounds.

What are the risks and benefits of cash-in-hand jobs outside official work hours?

There is no lawful benefit, only risk. Working beyond your visa limit or without authorisation can lead to cancellation of the visa, which affects every later application. Such jobs also carry a greater chance of pay below the minimum wage and no legal protection. Lawful work within the limit is the safe route.

What is the current hourly minimum wage for students in Australia?

From 1 July 2026 the national minimum wage is A$26.44 an hour, and for casual staff the minimum with the 25% loading is A$33.05. If your job falls under an award, the award rate applies. During the course the work limit is 48 hours a fortnight, so 48 hours at the minimum wage earns A$1,269.12 before tax (at least A$1,586.40 for a casual). There is no limit during scheduled breaks.

Alternative and budget-friendly destinations

What does credit transfer or twinning from Malaysia to the UK or Australia cost?

The total depends on the partner university, so giving one figure would be wrong. Our Malaysia guide puts annual bachelor’s tuition at about RM18,000–60,000 at private universities and RM40,000–90,000 at international branch campuses (excluding 6% service tax). Get written confirmation of credit transfer and note that a new visa application is needed for the next country. Details are in our Malaysia guide.

What does study cost in South Korea or Japan, and what are the part-time job options?

At Japanese national universities the standard annual tuition is ¥535,800, and with permission you can work up to 28 hours a week. For South Korea, guides cite roughly 2 million to 5 million won a semester at public universities. Work in Korea needs a separate permit, hours depend on your Korean language level, and work is generally barred for the first 6 months. Confirm current figures on the university page.

Is learning the local language mandatory for studying in Denmark, Hungary or Japan in English?

For English-taught programmes the local language is generally not required for admission. But for daily life, part-time work and the job market after graduation it is a big advantage. Some courses set a separate language condition, so read the programme page.

Visa interview and after a refusal

What are the common F-1 interview questions at the US Embassy in Dhaka?

In Bangladesh F-1 interviews are held only at the US Embassy in Dhaka. Typical questions: why this university and subject, why the USA, who pays and what is their income, what you will do after graduating, and what ties bring you home. Carry the I-20, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS receipt and financial proof. The embassy has asked F, M and J applicants to keep their social media profiles public.

What should I do after a student visa refusal?

First read the refusal reasons carefully. Do not reapply with the same facts; fix the gap, such as proof of funds, course logic or the SOP. Declare the earlier refusal on the next application, as hiding it makes things worse. Some countries offer review or appeal but with short time limits, so check the route stated in your refusal notice quickly.

How do I write a strong SOP to avoid visa refusal?

Build it in five parts: your academic and work background, why this course, why this institution and country, your plan after study and your link to Bangladesh, and how you will fund it. Use specific modules, projects and numbers. Write in your own words, because copied templates are easy to spot.

Study gap, intakes and changing subject

Is a 5-year gap accepted for a master’s in Canada or the UK?

It is possible, but you must explain the gap truthfully and prove it, for example with an employment letter, business papers or tax records. In the SOP state clearly what you did and how the new course fits. A country-wise analysis for gaps of 2 to 10 years is in our study gap guide.

When are the intake deadlines for the USA and Canada?

Fall intake (August–September) usually takes applications the previous winter, and earlier for applications with scholarships. Spring or January intake deadlines are usually the previous autumn. In Canada the main intakes are September, January and May. Every university sets its own dates, so start preparing at least 6 to 12 months ahead. As an example, the Cyprus February 2027 intake has a 4 December deadline for documents and tuition payment, details here.

Can I switch from business to IT for a master’s abroad after a BBA?

Directly it is hard, as most courses ask for a related degree. Data science usually expects a maths or statistics base and basic Python or R. A conversion master’s or foundation course is one route. Make the reason for the switch clear in the SOP or Genuine Student answer. The conditions are set out in our UK MSc guide.

Post-study work permit and PR

What is the current state of the UK Graduate route (post-study work visa)?

If you apply on or before 31 December 2026 you get 2 years. If you apply on or after 1 January 2027, bachelor’s and master’s graduates get 18 months. PhD graduates keep 3 years. The length is set by your application date, not your course end date. Details are in our UK guide.

Which country gives PR easily after graduation?

No country is "easy". Policy changes fast and none gives a guarantee. The usual steps are the PGWP route to PR in Canada, points-based visas in Australia, and the Graduate visa then a sponsored work visa in the UK. Choose your course by looking at the job market, subject and national policy before you go.

What is the Canadian PGWP, its conditions and its length?

University degree graduates need CLB 7 in English or French, and diploma or certificate graduates need CLB 5. Degrees have no field-of-study list condition. You must study full time at a PGWP-eligible institution and apply within 180 days of graduating. The length follows your course length, up to 3 years, and you can get it only once in your life. For 2026 the list of eligible diploma fields has been frozen.

How many points are needed for Australian PR after studying?

The 189, 190 and 491 visas use a points test. The pass mark to submit an EOI is 65, but invitations usually need much more, often 80–90 or higher for the 189. A 190 state nomination adds 5 points and a 491 nomination adds 15. Points come from age, English, work experience, education and Australian study. Check the final table on Home Affairs.

What if I cannot find a job within the work permit period?

If your visa ends and you hold no other valid visa, you must leave. The options are a sponsored work visa, further study or returning home. The Graduate visa and the PGWP cannot be extended. So start internships and networking during your studies, not in the final year.
